The Origins

NUALA Wines was established in 2010 by French entrepreneurs active in the wine business for several decades, to produce and export quality wines from New Zealand.

Everything started in the Marlborough Valley, renowned for the quality of its Sauvignon Blanc. After several vintages necessary to reach expected quality and style, Nuala Sauvignon Blanc became an undisputed success in all markets it was introduced.

A few years later, the range was extended with a Pinot Noir from the hills of Gladstone and a Riesling from Central Otago mountains.

As a testimonial of our attachment to the soil and native qualities, NUALA graphic identity and label depict an intricated Ammonite drawing, a fossil shell turned to stone and enhance thereby the beautiful minerality and crispy qualities of our wines.

The Nuala philosophy

The Nuala range has been specifically meant from the beginning as gastronomy wines. Our “French Touch” expresses itself through a particular attention to freshness, balance and nice acidity.

We are convinced that Nuala expresses itself at its best when paired with fine dishes. Our strong presence in fine restaurants, in many different countries, is our best and most pleasant reward.

Our philosophy is embodied by our Bordeaux native winemaker, Paul Martung. Paul learned his trade while growing up on the family property at Chateau Barreyre, in the heart of Médoc. After several experiences in prestigious Properties in Europe, Paul settled in Australia to vinify beautiful Pinot and Riesling from the New World, and then joined Nuala in New Zealand to bring his unique expertise and passion to drive the development of Nuala.
