2023 Nuala Central Otago
Pinot Noir
Technical information
The grapes were harvested by parcel (clone) on flavors and skin ripeness. Each clone was fermented separately after undergoing a period of cold soak to enhance color extraction and aromatics. Our winemaking style encourages fruit complexity, texture and balance. The wine was matured in French oak barrels, blended and bottled.
Vintage 2023
Central Otago’s growing season can be described as nothing short of a dream leading, if not a bit dry due to lack of rain. Flowering was a little unsettled but overall, it was a very good, even fruit set. The region saw rain coming just before harvest, receiving 40mm (1.6 in) in a couple of days. However, it was relatively easy to pick around the forecasted rains as the fruit was in such clean, healthy condition.
Tasting notes
On the palate taste memories of ripe red berries and dark cherries, so typical for vibrant Central Otago Pinot Noir, come to mind. This sensory experience is supported by an elegant well-balanced structure of fine tannins and a nice vein of gentle acidity which leads to a juicy mouthfeel. A very appealing, delicious medium-bodied wine of great length.
Food pairing
Great with salmon or game meat such as venison. Dishes like cassoulet or duck with olives, chargrilled steak, and mushroom risotto.
